Pascal's Principle

A car can be lifted using a hydraulic lyft. The hydraulic lift works with a cylinder filled with fluid in an enclosed space and then a small pump can pressurize the cylinder. The force the cylinder can exert to the other object is proportional to the pressure inside the cylinder and the surface area of the piston.

So just as you add pressure to the lift the cylinder will be exerting the same pressure to the car.
